Programs

Bilingual Preschool/PreKindergarten/Kindergarten: ages 2 years - entering 1st grade
The bilingual Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten program is carried out in Mandarin and English and includes the seven Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Science, Geography, and Art & Music.  Materials and posters around the classroom are printed with Chinese characters. Phonetic instruction is incorporated throughout the day in Mandarin for a total immersion experience. Simultaneous English translation is offered as needed to bridge the gap between cultures and languages.

Practical Life lessons develop control of body and movement through fine motor and gross motor skills, encourage children to complete tasks, help children gain independence, and practice grace and courtesy within a social setting. Through these lessons our Montessori students come to understand that we all have responsibilities to treat each other with respect and dignity.

Children engage in the Sensorial tasks, honing their skills in the discernment and discrimination of size, shape, color, texture, taste, smell, and sound.
Language and Math are integral areas of the Montessori environment. Lessons are introduced sequentially, depending on the child’s readiness. Children are introduced to reading and writing through the wide variety of units presented to them on many topics that help introduce vocabulary and awareness to the world around them. Math is extensive in the Montessori curriculum. Children might be working on numbers and may soon be ready to learn the concept of place value. Geometry and algebra are also incorporated through carefully designed Montessori materials.

While Montessori curriculum fosters independent learning, the classroom is not without opportunities for group instruction in all our areas of learning including, but not limited to, Languages, Music, Art, Science and Geography.

Our program also encourages healthy habits designed to last a lifetime. The children learn cooperative games that promote teamwork, healthy attitudes towards developing physical skills, and encouraging participation.

Toddler: ages 18 months – 36 months
The toddler class consists of 12 children maximum with a ratio of one teacher to every six children. Toddler classrooms include areas where children can experience many hands-on activities that blend five of the major Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math and Art. Children at this age are given many opportunities for building their confidence, grace, and other social-emotional skills. Throughout the day, children are provided experiences to grow in coordination, language development, early math concepts, creative arts and crafts, music, gross and fine motor skills, toilet training, and independence. Additionally, there is daily nap time for those children who need it.
